Candied Walnuts

Servings: 2 cups
Sweetening the nuts removes their slightly bitter edge. Serve as a snack, add-on for salads, desserts, charcuterie board, or package-up as a gift. Pre-crunched peppermint candy available in baking aisles.


  • 2 cups whole or halved walnuts
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  •  2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • Crushed peppermint bits, optional


  1. Add walnuts to a medium skillet with Teflon™ nonstick coating.
  2. Add sugar, cinnamon, salt, stirring constantly with a soft spatula until molten, about 3 minutes.
  3. Stir in maple syrup; coat nuts well.
  4. Transfer nuts to a work surface.
  5. Using a fork, separate nuts to avoid clumping.
  6. Sprinkle peppermint bits overtop.
  7. Serve or store in fridge 2-3 weeks.
